UC Davis is not only one of the top schools in California, but it’s one of the nation’s top public research universities too. During the 2008-2009 school year, the university celebrated its 100th birthday. Over the past 100 years UC Davis has developed over 100 undergraduate and over 70 graduate programs, offering students a wide range of educational topics, including a forensic science graduate program. The forensic science program provides an in-depth education into Criminalistics, while presenting curriculum based on real world examples, in laboratories and individual facilities.

Students can choose to earn their Master of Science in Forensic Science degree on a full-time or part-time basis. Full-time students can finish the program within two years, while part-time students complete the degree in about three years. New graduates are educated, trained and well-qualified to find employment at private, local, state and federal crime labs. Or, they can go into consulting, investigations or advanced research.

Admission Requirements

Unlike other university policies, the GRE is not necessary to get into UC Davis. In fact, the only time they do come in useful is when an applicant applies late. All applications should be in by February 1st of each academic year to be eligible for the following Fall semester. If an applicant does not complete the application process by March 1st of any year, that application is tossed in the garbage. The following items are required for the admission process:

  • Complete application
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Statement of purpose
  • Payment of application fee ($70- US residents, $90- international applicants)
  • Transcripts
  • GRE scores (although they are not required, applicants should take the GRE)
